Preamble
Under the Rules of Association of the Australasian
Association of Professional and Consulting Anthropologists and
Archaeologists membership is contingent upon conformity to the Code of
Ethics which is from time to time adopted by the Executive of the Association
and ratified by its members in a General Meeting.
The premise under printing this Code of Ethics is that the
primary responsibility of the members is to conduct and report upon
research with a commitment to open inquiry, honesty and impartiality.
The intention of the Members is creating this Code of Ethics
is to establish Guide-lines for fostering ethical and socially responsible
conduct in the performance of their research and its consequences for all
parties involved or represented and the general public.
The application of this Code of Ethics shall not derogate
from a member's rights at Law.
The following Code of Ethics adopted by the Executive of the
Association and ratified by members in a General Meeting on the 17th day of
August 1993 governs the professional conduct of members until amended or
revoked in accordance with the Association.
- Members shall uphold the primary of
independent scientific research and impartial assessment of data, and
they shall be professionally accountable for all data collected,
analysed, and reported upon, and for any research performed under
their direction.
- Members shall respect the interests of all
parties to the research in so far this is consistent with ethical and
legal conduct.
- Members in conducting their research shall
respect the codes of trust involved in transferring information in
accordance with the established cultural practice and authority
structure of those from whom this information is obtained.
- Members shall inform the principals of all
parties to the research of their findings.
- Members shall endeavour to remain informed of
developments in their profession, and be willing to share knowledge
and information with colleagues.
- Members shall acknowledge research done by
others in accordance with established conventions and, if asked for a
second opinion, they shall notify the original researcher and in
presenting this opinion they shall not misrepresent, or make vexatious
or frivolous statements about, the work of others in the profession.
- Members shall only solicit employment in a
manner that is fair and reasonable and conforms to legal codes.
